As many of you know, there are some mangas/manhuas/manhwas that features sex but not in an explicit way like Megami Sprinter. The problem is, many of this works are being tagged as "hentai" and being filtered from timelines, even though they aren't. I would like we had another filter option for these works, like "softcore", so they would not be grouped with hentai and filtered for no reason. this way we would have the options: "show nothing 18+", "show softcore", "show all", "show only softcore" and "show only hentai".
Ty for the attention.

I believe that anything that isn't explicitly hentai belongs under either smut or ecchi, and possibly also josei/seinen, so people can just exclude those tags later when that becomes possible.
The problem is that it might seem obvious to some what should and shouldn't be classed as hentai, but clearly people here have different thoughts on the matter so a page with tagging guidelines is needed in the rules.

@bastek66 that's not really my point, as you might know there's the option to hide all that is classified as "hentai" and certain works that has sex is being classified as that even though they shouldn't. See nozoki ana for example, it's ecchi but it's contents is more mature than most ecchis that only shows breasts, etc. These works like nozoki ana can be qualified as softcore, but since they show more mature scenes people are marking them as "hentai". In this case it's clear that it is missing a term to qualify them as which would be a midterm between ecchi and plain hentai, this can be confirmed by the fact that ppl are just confused as to leave it as hentai or not, i.e., something 18+ or not.
@Potato the problem is, for those like me that hide hentai, getting these works marked as one will make them disappear from my list, making it difficult for me to follow and even to know that it was marked as one, and if they don't show on my update list, I would normally mistake as "it wasn't updated".

@jokerxhisoka People who are marking titles like Nozaki Ana as hentai are dumb and don't understand it was published in typical seinen, not hentai magazine.
BTW nice notification feature.

@jokerxhisoka Right, which is why a tagging guide for contributors is a good idea. Then everyone would rate hentai the same and hopefully end misstagging so titles doesn't get hidden when they shouldn't.
Of course one doesn't exclude the other, we could have both a guide and a softcore filter at the same time if admins so chooses.

I have always assumed Smut was equivalent to Softcore as well. From my experience filtering by Smut, this seems to be the case.

@apothem but that's genre, I'm talking about the filter you can put by clicking on the gear on the top right part. I want these works, that have smut but aren't hentai and aren't for -18 either, to not be wrongly grouped as "hentai".

I'm might not be being clear, these works are somewhat pornographic which makes it plausible for some ppl to want them to be filtered, but they are softcore and not blatant porn so they shouldn't be grouped with "hentai", that's why i'm suggesting a midterm filter.

Yeah good point; then adding a 'Hentai' genre + @Potato's mention of "exclude those tags later when that becomes possible." should eventually make this possible...

And perhaps to better describe genres a small description on hover over would suffice?

No. Only one notification per post and mentions made after the post is created do not notify.

Mangaupdates labels manga such as Megami no Sprinter as borderline-h I think. So maybe just label the filter borderline-h to distinguish them from hentai?

I'm gonna mark this as Maybe since we're nowhere *near* agreeing on tagging rules for Filth.

@Bastek66 but this isn't about the genres, it's about the feature to hide mature content

this is what I'm talking about, that there should be an option there for borderline-h/softcore; so ppl would stop wrongly marking borderline-h as hentai, just because they have mature content too.

So in summary, the main issue is that the filter only has 2 levels of granularity:
1. Hide R18
2. Show R18

And what's being suggested here is to increase the number of levels of granularity.

For comparison:
- Yen Press has A (all readers), T (teen), OT (older teen), And M (mature). They also have 4 content indicators: L (language), V (violence), S (sexual situations), N (nudity)
- The MPAA has G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17
- The ESRB has E, E10+, T, M, and AO, as well as a long list of content descriptors.
- FictionRatings (the one that FanFiction.net uses) has K, K+, T, M, and MA
- AO3 has General Audiences, Teen And Up Audiences, Mature, and Explicit
- Pixiv has All ages, Mild sexual depiction (not viewable to visitors not logged in), R-18 (age-restricted: sexual content), and R-18G (age-restricted: grotesque/violent contents)
- Danbooru has 3 levels: Safe, Questionable, and Explicit

EDIT: Corrected some parts about the Pixiv system per @-b's clarifications.
