Author Chapter 227 (Golden Kamuy)
Avatar
Running Man has surpassed Nikaido as creepiest as the creepiest guy in Tsurumi’s group.

This chapter is one of the more logical yet still creepy ones.

I'm sure he can relate

The youkan part on the last page reminds me of nichijou (when the kid was pulling cake and stuff from the robots body) xDD

So to sum up

At least Noda properly illustrated the page

Usami is creepy, but Tsurumi is the creepiest of them all, grooming children and convincing them to be part of his army...

@CKN
Seconded!

I mean I get it. This world is bleak and almost no-one makes it through to their happy ending... But seriously don't let anything happen to our Matagi boi and his Ainu sweetheart. *cries with hopeful tears*

I wonder if he reciprocates the love his men have for him, or he's just able to imitate it for the purpose of manipulation. he did at least love his wife. so he's not an outright sociopath, but is able to transgress basic humanity by sheer force of will and intellect, he's not disturbed and he's not being forced by circumstance to do awful things and kill people. he wholly chooses this, even when lying he acts with no pretension. tsurumi is a very special and dangerous kind of evil. I love this series.

so being gay is good for a soldier huh? nice to know

Wait. That flashback part when Tsurumi explaining soldier opinion is confusing me.

What era is the timeline actually? Tsurumi said something about WW II and Vietnam War, but isn't the story goes around some year after WW I? Or is there something that I missed?
Avatar
@Suryo the autor is saying that part
Avatar
Is there any explanation of the thing in page 8? I thought it was something important...

@TenguMuffy
I think he failed with Ogata since his desire has been fulfilled and no longer need to "use" Tsurumi.
Avatar
@Suryo That's author narration, no Tsurumi. This takes place after the Russo Japanese War in the early years of the 20th century, and is pre-WW1.

Usami: "Is it dead?" Wow lol.
Avatar
@MawMaw Even the ancients knew that. Look up the Sacred Band of Thebes.

I was wondering why they were focusing so much on this character that I thought was just a two-bit Koito, but it was short, to the point, and it neatly tied up all of the 7th division backstories with Tsurumi's philosophy about war and leadership.

Did Tsurumi plan this, or was this one actually just an accident? It doesn't seem worth it for him to get demoted just to get Usami on his side, but that one panel where he talks about being far from central command makes it seem like he actually wanted that. His surprise at Usami going berserk seemed genuine though, but he's clearly a good actor.

Now I'm starting to believes the guesses people made earlier that Koito has been secretly wavering in his loyalty to Tsurumi since he learned the truth from Ogata. Usami seemed like a Koito knockoff, but now he looks like he could be a foil to Koito, since Koito's admiration for Tsurumi had a legitimate basis, but turned out to be an elaborate lie, while Usami's is just a sociopathic obsession.
