On the one hand, it's frustrating that he seems so dense to Eru's feeling.
But when you consider his lack self confidence and existing crush on Bambi,
it makes perfect sense that he'd be more focused on getting closer to her.
Also that the whole reason she's supposed to be there is to grant his wish...
