I've noticed (unfortunately) that with growth comes the influx of users who are ignorant of our rules concerning how to post in the forums and the manga chapter/manga series section of MangaDex. Some are innocent due to not even realizing there were rules and others...not so much.

Up til this point I haven't asked @Holo for moderator tools beyond what we currently have because we haven't needed them so far. This is a bit of a problem since we're starting to see rules violations with no real way for users to report said violations.

For now, here is the current procedure:
Send me a PM with:
[ul]The offense
A link to the relevant thread (and page number since we don't have post links yet)
A screenshot if possible[/ul]
I'll take it from there!

Not much else to report at the moment except I can confirm that Holo is turning his attention to the forums for a time. Updates incoming soon!

We have a comment report system now. Disregard.

What kind of rules violation are we talking about?
Simple stuff like 'only post spoilers in the chapter discussion' getting ignored or the more problematic kind?

@GarryCarryBarry Same for the site rules I believe

Conduct
Misidentifying yourself as a MangaDex staff member could result in a ban.
MangaDex does not condone contacting groups about changing their restrictions or uploading their releases. If you are contacting a group, be nice and make it clear you are not associated with MangaDex.
Abusing the chapter report function could result in a ban.
Do not report any releases for any translation or visual quality issues that originate from the scanlator. These reports will be ignored.
Circumventing group upload restrictions in any way could result in a ban.
Avoid edit wars. If another user edits a comic entry to something different from what you had previously edited and you disagree with their edit, do not change it back, but immediately notify a staff member.
If you think a release has been taken down mistakenly, do not reupload. Contact staff.
Comments and Forums
Be Civil
Disagreeing with an opinion is totally fine. All we ask is that you keep to the topic at hand and refrain from resorting to personal attacks on other involved parties. To that end, please avoid racist, sexist, and religious discrimination or other terminology where the intended outcome is to be offensive.
It is preferred that you take any (extended) disagreements into a private conversation.
Don't Be Disruptive
Keep your posts on topic.
Do not post blatant spoilers outside of designated forums.
Avoid cluttering up discussions with memes or image responses to posts.
No trolling. Controversial opinions and topics are welcome when accompanied by a point of view aimed at generating genuine discussion.
Don't Make the Staff's Job Harder
Do not argue with a moderator about an action in a thread.
Do not encourage others to break the rules.
Do not file reports of posts, users, comments, or comic chapters in bad faith.
Content on MangaDex Forums
Posting child pornography or links to it is strictly prohibited.
If something is not safe for work, please ensure that you mark it appropriately.
Pornography is fine, but please ensure that it is kept to the relevant forums.
Spoilers belong in spoiler tags.
Linking to external sites via advertising redirects is not allowed.
Appealing a Moderator's Action
If you are the recipient of some form of action by a Moderator for breaking the rules and you disagree with it, please contact the Moderator via PM.

So far there have been very few reports. I guess I was overestimating the number of violations out there.

As it is, the work load is so low that I don't think another forum mod is necessary at this point.

Guess that works for now until the site reaches an even higher boiling point of growth...at which point, hopefully there will be some more dedicated tools at your disposal by then...like a button with a ban hammer icon, or another with a loudspeaker icon for warnings--just some some ideas.

Nice to see there's at least something in place for this sort of stuff for the time being.

So far the community behaves better than what we have in Batoto, and the community in Batoto itself is already pretty wholesome compared to how toxic internet community usually mmm...

But anticipation and prevention is always welcome mmm...

Btw is posting links of loli hentai on mangadex in relevant forum also counted as posting links of CP mmm...~?

So far, people have been pretty pleasant to one another, relatively speaking. Hopefully that's a continuing trend.

So long as you keep the hentai in the NSFW forums, that's fine. There is a difference between CP and loli hentai but just make sure that you're following your country's laws regarding the subject. Some countries consider drawn lolis the same as CP.

I'll take this opportunity to reiterate that posting actual CP is *strictly* prohibited.

This is a very welcome and decent addition.

I will certainly say that even when people get somewhat heated on here (myself included) things have been pretty darn civil and there has been very little need for any moderation to step in. But as people say, with growth will come the unfortunate addition of people who will be the toxic elements of the anime/manga community that many people are aware of and often judge this community by. And having steps in place to make sure that they do not infect or become a common fixture here, even if they aren't really showing up at the moment, will enable a smooth maintenance of the quality of MangaDex when such events do arise.

Obviously it's pretty low priority since we're not seeing much need for it but the steps taken to put in place some form of it are a good sign.

Thanks to the staff for their quick movement on this!

Why avoid memes and images? It could make discussions more fun. In the first place we are here to have fun so why restrict some people to not post images when they feel like it?

With meme posts (including picture-only, no text types) it usually brings down the quality of a discussion. That is to say, instead of being thoughtful and intelligent, the discussion becomes juvenile and trivialized. There are enough places already out there on the net for people to have meme posts about animu and mango. I'm guessing the people running this place don't want it to become just another one of many like those other places. Or at least, that's what I'd assume to be the case.

If there are few apples, that means there are few oranges. To quote VawX, "mmm..."

I wonder if it has anything to do with the way the rule "Don't Make the Staff's Job Harder" gets enforced, with the clarification "Do not file reports... in bad faith."

Don't mind the four-month-late-reply cause I just felt like replying when I wandered around old forum threads...

@monkey123 I guess if the discussion is only 3-4 replies long then it's fine but once you get to the double digits, the page is going to be annoying to just scroll down... forever...

And you know the drill, images in spoiler tags to keep things short.
