Apparently this is very common of young people in japan. A couple semesters ago we had a few group meetings with some of the japanese exchange students on campus and the japanese language program here and most of them said that young people in japan generally don't know anything about politics. Though, until recently the same could be said about the US as well.... in fact, it kind of still is true.

@Blueskirt sadly true. I only thing that the recent uptick in young voter participation is because of how clownish and polarized politics has gotten, in combination dissatisfaction with the government and social media to encourage voting. But the actual evaluation of candidates and understanding of their roles is still pretty murky.
