Author Chapter 8 (A Returner's Magic Should Be Special)

Hm, even after showing exceptional talent, he's still placed in the B class for lack of magic circle tiers. Have they explained what they are yet? If they're something like Dungeons and Dragons' spell slot system, he'd be able to increase his tier by gaining experience, right? Or is it set at birth?

@es_kan, I think back in ch. 1 he was told to be tiered 3 or something, so yea, it can be increased,

Mitsuboshi go check the raws. Romantica was his bae in the past and probably in this life too.

@Kireato: Probably politics. Desir won over two nobles that are presumed between the most talented of that year. If both nobles would've been enrolled in A-class, and the commoner that won over them in B-class over a technicality, it would've been blatant favoritism, way over the hypocritical "feigning non discrimination" you spoke of. And presumably Desir's sponsor would have pressed the point over and over and over. Even during the school year. I think the rest of the council put Romantica in B-class as a "token of good faith" to shut up Desir's sponsor.

Honestly, that doesn't satisfy me. In this chapter, Desir's admission is considered last, which means that Romantica and Ajest were already considered and evaluated. This means that the council was not aware that Professor Bridgette was pushing for the admission of a commoner in class A before they evaluated Romantica and Ajest and that they evaluated them both without any regards for Professor Bridgette's agenda. Moreover, they did not mention anything concerning the evaluation of the other members of Desir's group when they decided that Desir should go to class B. In fact, the head of the council saw that there were two differing opinions, one pushing for Desir being enlisted in class A thanks to his obvious talent and one pushing to enlist him in class B because he does not pass the criteria of being at least a tier 2 magician, and decided to hold a majority vote so that everyone would accept the final decision without any further complaints.

The council clearly does not review the matches in details usually. They look at the student details, their magic tier, their exam result and then give them a pass to class A or B or fail. In Desir's case, Professor Bridgette had to bring up a recording of the match to support her case for sending a tier 1 magic commoner to class A.

So this begs the question - why hadn't they already seen the recording when evaluating Ajest and Romantica? The ice magic swordsman which was all they could talk about did NOT come out first from her challenge - shouldn't they have been curious about what happened? And the same case can be made for Romantica.

Honestly, either we learn soon that Ajest is also in class B - and then I can only imagine that there will be complaints by whoever educated Ajest and Romantica since both of them are strong and should have been placed in class A, or we learn that Romantica is part of a fairly low status noble family who is little better than a commoner.

As it is, this chapter is just extremely confusing.

ugh how the fuck did he fall in love with romantica when shes like THAT. I get people change but its not like he was at school for a terribly long time and im sure with her personality like that itd take A WHILE to get off that high horse.

@cherokeemoon @Mitsuboshi Don't worry, the RAWs don't mean shit when it comes to long-running series like this, especially manhua, the blonde is much more likely.

@gaigous yea exactly and i checked the raws sooo yea.
Where does the story say that romantica was mcs lover @Omnicent ?

@Kireato: the last thing we hear from the principal was "let's decide the placement of Desir", then it cuts to the admission board. We don't know what happened in between, and it could been everything, including reconsidering previous admissions in the light of this (and because of a council member raising hell). It's not that things like this haven't happened elsewhere. The point I want to raise is: when a council member decides to stick to his point to annoyng level, even a simple vote can degenerate in an endless discussion that can end in a compromise. That said, I don't pretend to be right, I'm just offering a potential interpretation of the event.

it would be interesting if his past life girlfriend(?) hated him instead in this life because of him fucking with her, or at least something other than every woman loving the MC..
