Okay, but real talk: Why are there so many artist drawing anime girls wearing cow-themed apparel? Am I missing something? I didn't see any pictures like them during 2020, but after 2021 began, I have seen almost every artist I know of create at least one such picture

@briancornpop Yes, Chinese New Year begins on 12 February in 2021, but as soon as the Gregorian Calendar hits, the theme of the year is already set. Unlike Vietnam and Korea, Japan no longer follows the Chinese lunar calendar. They used to, but not since the Meiji modernisation in 1873.

@briancornpop Correct but since most of 2021 is going to be the year of the cow, most people just treat it as such from Jan 1st. Also I assume most Japanese don't exactly follow the Chinese calendar so they go Jan 1st to Dec 31st for whatever animal it's supposed to be.
