The times they are a-changin'

I never thought manga would be a great place to explore LGBTQ+ stories or characters, especially since it has the tendency to exploit the group, but I have read some mangas recently that have told amazing LGBTQ+ stories or have authentic LGBTQ+ characters. An example of a great LGBTQ+ story would be Tagame Genoroh's manga, "Otouto no Otto" (My Brother's Husband). The manga is about a Japanese man who is visited by his brother's Canadian husband, and how he must come to terms with his brother's sexuality and his actions in the past. It is a great read, I cried a bit too. Some wonderful examples of mangas that have authentic LGBTQ+ characters, but are not centered around LGBTQ+ stories, are anything written by Tajima Rettou. Rettou's work always has these character's who are LGTBQ+ and exhibit what it is like to be actually LGTBQ+ in Japan. In their manga "Kodomo was Wakatte," which is about two kids trying to find a father, there exists a transgender character who talks about getting surgery, and how that got them kicked out of the family. These are just the few I have come across, may I remind you, because I am sure there are hundreds of other mangas out there that exhibit either great LGBTQ+ stories or authentic characters.

Now, I know we already have yuri, Shoujo Ai and all of that jazz, but those are not LGBTQ+ stories nor do they have authentic LGBTQ+ characters. This becomes obvious you actually dissect one of them, like Tan Jiu's "Tamen de Gushi," a popular Shoujo Ai and yuri webcomic. It is about two girls falling in love, in China, where homosexuality was only just declassified as a mental illness in 2001 and still has heavy repercussions for people who identify as LGBTQ+. Now, this is never addressed and the two live happily, and that is why this is not an LGBTQ+ story nor does it have authentic LGBTQ+ characters. This is just a fantasy for heterosexuals to fawn over while they deny civil rights to actual living and breathing LGBTQ+ people. This is not to say that LGBTQ+ stories and characters can not be happy, but these stories and characters need to address the reality of the situation because then it is no different than Isekai or sci-fi. Basically, the LGBTQ+ tag would finally separate stories that are basically LGBTQ+ characters acting like straight people in some fantasy world, from the stories that actually confront the realities of being LGBTQ+.

I am tired of seeing amazing LGBTQ+ stories being buried under fap material for homophobes.

Anyway, LGBTQ+ stories can still be fapped too, as seen with Battan's "Kakeochi Girl" (Run Away With Me, Girl). There is an explicit sex scene in this manga, if I remember correctly, but it also confronts the struggles faced by young LGBTQ+ youths when they are too scared to accept themselves.

Lastly, I would like to point out that I am a straight cis-gender fuckhead, so I may have gotten somethings wrong, but I do love these stories and want an easier way to access them. I also have a pure hatred for yuri, yaoi, and all of that jazz, so I am sorry if my distaste came off rather strongly.

P.S the rules for LGBTQ+ would be simply any manga that tells an authentic LGBTQ+ story or has authentic LGBTQ+ characters would get it.

No. This crap has already been rejected. And topic locked due to the trainwreck it devolved into. Almost every post in it got moderated. https://mangadex.org/thread/309502

(Note, the topic of a tag is garbage. Not lgbtqwhateverotherletterstheyveaddedthisweek)

Hopefully this thread will be kept civil. It is definitely different from previous threads but I'm not sure that will keep a storm from coming.

But what you might think is realistic lgbtq representation might not be realistic for others? I vote no. Just ask for recommendations from a legitimate source.

What you're looking for is drama, then. Not everyone reads manga to feel sad about real topics. Fiction is fiction, not reality.
Also I don't read a lot of yuri/yaoi but I've heard Tamen De Gushi derailed from the lesbian storyline because of China's laws.

I've personally seen people in the same LGBT community disregarding other LGBT people's experience regarding harassment, discrimination, and even abuse so I don't think it would be possible to define stories with this tag if you demand it "tells an authentic LGBTQ+ story or has authentic LGBTQ+ characters would get it". Says it gets implemented, if a character defined as a LGBT person doesn't suffer enough discrimination or whatever torments to be whatever you define as "authentic experience", do you also demand the tag be removed?

Edit: your problem easily solved by searching for drama + slice of life + yaoi/yuri (or whatever genres you like) combo.

Like Yatsuki, this is exactly the point that also strike me as the problem. The LGBT people that I know wouldn't be in agreement with that definition of LGBTQ+ either.

LGBTQ+ shouldn't be associated as a dramatic type of tag as OP described. Not all of them 'suffer' through life.
I'm not saying there's no discrimination, mind you; but knowing an author that identifies as LGBTQ+, she always says that her life shouldn't be reduced as her struggle to get acceptance.
It's an expression of one's preference of sexuality (or preference of lack of sexuality in some case) and as such I don't think it should be misused into a romanticed type of drama that match only the warped experience that some have to go through in repressive system.

Then again, who am I to say anything about that too... I'm just someone who knows a couple of LGBT couples... And I agree that Montreal is much more accepting of their LGBTQ+ population than most of the world.

I tried to make sense of OP's post, but it was Too Much of Nothing.
Are people seriously gatekeeping who does and doesn't "represent" [XYZ] in fictional settings? Unbelievable.
If the previous threads are any indication, a Hurricane is coming and one should start looking for Shelter from the Storm.
OP, Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?
You might be able to maintain some Dignity that way.

Hey guys, I did not know the history around this subject, so I am really sorry about. I was a kissmanga user, which is why I put "retreat" in my username.

I do see some valid arguments around that refute my claim, and I agree with them. LGBTQ+ stories should not all be about suffering, because LGBTQ+ people deserve to have happy times, and to basically put all their lives down into suffering is unfair and unrealistic. Then there is the fact that it is very hard to distinguish authentic stories because everyone has a different story and to find the "real" authentic story is very, very, very impossible. Lastly, yuri and yaoi is an extensive universe that accommodates all certain types of itself, which I had no idea about. I thought it was all boy loves for hetero girls to swoon over. My mistake, I apologize for that.

But when I think of yaoi and yuri, I still feel it alludes to oversexualized same-sex relations that are unrealistic for any type of person in reality, and that it is basically porn. Then again, this could be because of my own ignorance. Please enlighten me.

Though a tiny minority seem against the idea for "personal" reasons that I will not address, cause that will really turn this place into a dumpster fire.
