Given the comment at the photo lab that led to his going to high school, that they didn't see many his age using film cameras, making it sound as though he hadn't been in there before, where did he have the photos developed prior to his trip?
Yes, he set aside the first roll to develop himself once he learned how, but did he not have the next roll developed after he finished it, so that he could learn from what he had done?
It's the sense that he hadn't been there before for developing that makes me wonder this, where he had the film developed previously; while prior to digital cameras taking over, a decent size town would have many photo developers available, there are now very few places to get film developed, and more than one in a community is the sign of a very large city.
