@jackslate, In a lot of competitions there are also relays where the pistol competitors shoot too. They’re just there to fill in empty space and not to compete against the rifle shooters. The “beam” part could be referring to a SCATT, which is a little mount you put on your gun that shows a “trace” of your movement (and the shot as well). The SCATT is mostly used for training though because they are really finicky. (Sorry that I’m replying to an old comment but I’m trying to answer everyone’s shooting questions)
