Create a tag for Omegaverse

I suppose it's not a problem for 99.9% of the works on this site, but I'd like a way to filter out Omegaverse-themed stories from the search results list for the Yaoi genre (and maybe it would help others who like it find it easier). Omegaverse is almost a genre in it's own right with it's six genders, social caste system, mpreg, etc. ... it's very distinct from all other types of Yaoi.

Since it's a framework used to define a setting, maybe the Themes tab would be the best place to put it?

When I first read the title I was assuming it was sci fi related holy hell was I way off. I agree I also don't see a reason to add this tag whatsoever.

I don't see why not. Omegaverse has been a really popular theme/trope in yaoi recently and there's no way to filter out those titles. Considering we have tags like Vampires, which has less than 200 titles and includes some which definitely aren't centered around vampires, like Dragon Ball, I don't get why a genre with more than 4k titles shouldn't get a tag for a popular theme to help out readers trying to seek out or avoid omegaverse stories. It doesn't seem like a huge problem, but if you do read yaoi, you'll probably understand how inconvenient it can be.

Its not even a tag on e-hentai... and if its not a tag on a porn site that literally has every possible fetish.... it doesnt need to be one.

@AbyssalMonkey TBH when I think of the tagging system, what comes to mind is the users convenience. I get what you're saying about crossing genres, but my train of thought goes more on the lines of "more detailed tagging seems helpful so why not", so I guess that's why something like that seems to be fine by me lol. But if the official stance leans towards simpler tagging on MD and that MangaUpdates should be used for more specific filtering, then I guess there's not much to discuss about that.

I expected this kind of response considering it's niche within a niche! However, I think works that 1)comprise a significant part of a genre and 2) drastically transform that genre into something beyond what a normal reader might expect should be considered for tagging. Like I said, Omegaverse is almost a genre in it's own right with separate themes, tropes, and conventions that don't apply to the rest of the group it's lumped in to. (Maybe if it gets popular enough it will finally get it's own section on porn sites, and eventually MangaDex could follow suit, and I will never accidentally stumble on one again. 😄)

@AbyssalMonkey
The custom list feature sounds like it could work, but it's a very tedious process. I'll still make good use of it though!

>Can we also have separate tag for true loli and legal loli?

legal loli is a fuckin myth, lolis are exclusively under the age of 12 (if human), and there's a little bit of wiggle room when they're not human. a tag for nonhuman characters would be good though, if you want to distinguish your robot lolis from your nekololis and human imoutos or whatnot.

@tadakyuni I feel ya. I think I even asked for this too. It's funny how the rest of the site spent so much effort on filters for yaoi while we can't get a stupid tag for Omegaverse. I just want to read my trash BL without having to sift through the growing Omegaverse stuff. 😩

Also, I agree with the OP. Omegaverse is practically a literal genre, as niche as it is.
Though yeah, since it's from hentai manga mostly, you should go ask in the other sites, since MangaDex focuses primarily on non-h manga.

What sort of rabbit hole is this thing

@Tadakyuni If you advocate for otome tag I'll advocate for omegaverse tag

@MarvN Lolis are all about appearances, not actual ages. A woman can be a loli if she's petite and child-like enough.

@DANDAN_THE_DANDAN Sure! I know Otome is quite different from typical shoujo, and may even include BL vibes that would turn off someone looking for a pure girl-guy romance story. At the end of the day, more options to help people find what they want is a good thing. If there is a subgenre that warps and plays around with the "parent" genre in ways that almost make them stand-alone genres by themselves, I think it's worth pointing out.

As an aside... I don't know where the legal loli/shota arguments are coming from but I think they've been discussed in other threads. I think MD staff might want to avoid drawing any more attention to the loli/shota tags other than they exist so people can filter that kind of content if they don't want to see it. Adding qualifiers like "legal" implies taking a stance, and that creates unsolvable headaches.

While the lack of omegaverse tag is inconvenient, I've found that they're usually easy to spot from either the title or summary, they don't usually try to hide. I have slowed down on my BL reading lately though so I might have just missed any stealth ones.

@Tadakyuni Actually, otome is a subgenre of isekai more than it is for shoujo lol. But yeah I agree with what you said.

@kaza_hesto Everyone can spot an isekai from the synopsis, and sometimes even from the title, but hey isekai tag exists anyway cause it makes it more convenient to look up.

Well, the site have loli hentai anyway so I don't think that would bring any problem. And considering how OP bring how a tag bring the original tag to something beyond, legal loli might as well have much more content than the true loli themself.

Considering that there is only 203 entries of said tag. Taking out the doujins/established things like Attack on Titan/Yuri on Ice, or Anthology entry/compilation entries... that brings it down to under 90. Which makes it an extremely small subset of Yaoi (100 pages of 100 entries each on MU, which only brings it, in alphabetical order to Katekyo Hitman Reborn doujins).

As opposed to Isekai which has become an entire GENRE that spans many, many other themes.

Right now, authors and publishers are cashing in on the Omegaverse trend so it's pretty obvious which ones are not from the cover, title, and/or summary. Like, they really hammer it down that it's Omegaverse. MU would be sufficient if you really want to look for it while filtering it won't take a few seconds of checking said cover, title, and/or summary.

Bara doesn't even have a tag when it's a more established sub-genre.

the "cross-genre" argument doesn't hold water anymore when you consider the addition of the villainess tag, which is almost exclusively an isekai/life-do-over sub-genre. I also don't know why you wouldn't include doujins when you're counting the number of manga, considering they're regular entries just like other types of manga. There are also, as stated before, a couple of non-yaoi Omegaverse manga. AND, if we're going by the system Mangadex is planning to implement in V5, most Omegaverse manga aren't even Porn, they're Suggestive or Erotica, so would that still work with the H tags?
