Abuse of Uploads and Upload Restrictions :rejected:

Lately I’ve seen an increase of fake or rule breaking chapters uploaded when the mods aren’t available, this warrants a discussion.

The Mangadex team is a group of volunteers and not paid staff, so it’s unreasonable to keep asking more from them. However something needs to he implemented so that fans aren’t scared off the site.

Some basic solutions I could think of are;
Blackout times for non group user to upload.
Auto-hide a chapter if it receives too many reports within reasonable time from upload, or with specific report reasons.
Elevate a group of trusted users to be able to hide chapters from public until mods are able to review it.

@Jumballi Blackout times are interesting but it's not particularly concerning if a fake chapter is uploaded while the mods are asleep, it'll just be handled when they wake up
Auto-hiding chapters due to report count would lead to some severe abuse cases considering the amount of fake reports people already send right now

There are definitely some automated methods we can take to combat repetitive fake uploads (like nuking new accounts that try to upload x chapters in x time or uploading x chapters with same content), but for now it's fine since fake uploads are quite rare
