i never assumed that the author wouldn't follow up on this, but seeing yall expect otherwise makes me sort of wish they wouldn't, like it be super funny if we just never saw kanemura or hikariko again and their disappearance was never brought up? like they just died in the desert a thousand years in the future and the comic went on as usual

＠DjAlexDubCheck Itd be funny because that'd be completely out of the left field from the author, like absurd even for a manga thats predicated on unpredictability. It's less that the situation itself is humorous as much as like, the thought of Tsubana, who's shown themselves to be a consistent author with what I'm assuming is a normal amount of attachment to their characters, just implying the death of two main cast members for mysterious reasons and then never explaining or even mentioning it again
