Is it seriously legal to force employees to work overtime without pay??!? In Finland that's illegal as fuck and the company would be sued to oblivion.

Overtime work in Japan is so common that usually your monthly salary already includes the overtime pay. This means that you are already expected to work overtime everyday when you join the company. The hours you clock in for overtime is usually underpaid in your salary. Really shitty work culture, always happen in Japanese companies. Good tip is just to work in an American company based in Japan, conditions are so much better.

Japanese work culture is the worst. Humans work to live, not the other way around.

@jackslate in many japanese offices irl they still use fax machines even though email is better in literally all ways because "that's how it's always been done", one fax machine parts manufacturer is only still in business because all the offices keep buying their parts. basically the culture is "do things the way the boss does them".

@starburst98 I recall hearing that the reason a katana's form remained unchanged was because some ruler decided that it should not be altered, thus forbidding improvement. I guess this is just a branch of that kind of mindset.
