Vol. 3 Ch. 19 - So Much Water
Avatar
Probably because of my childhood I'm always confused when people say they can't swim, I mean my uncle thrown me in the middle of a alligator infested water and then told me to swim back to shore when I was a little, little kid lloll perhaps I just had a fucked up childhood?

@Winchan : Nonsense referencing similar nonsense elsewhere then? Seems like the sort of thing that would happen, I suppose.

@SotiCoto

doesn't make sense anywhere, but I bet there's an mmorpg/rpg out there that got a similar element.
Avatar
@SotiCoto - no, it doesn't exactly make much sense in Japan either. It's one of those fanciful elements of fantasy that make it look more dreamy and mysterious.
Also, the man doesn't seem to be in control of the situation, given he can't even speak properly, so it's probably spontaneous magic.
Avatar
Yeah okay. So he decides to engage in Astral Projection to go find herbs for his dying wife... and then somehow transmits physical herbs with him back to his body.

Is this one of those things that makes cultural sense in Japan but just seems batshit crazy elsewise?

@throwaway4ccount
my first thought is that was a bound ghost of a man that searching for a medicine for his wife, he died in the forest while searching, and then turned into a ghost that keep searching for eternity
Avatar
You can't swim? well you only need to sink to go there //WRONG

At least she wasn't singing, when she lured him into the sea (to drown and eat him).

*3 years in waterworld and 300 years on landworld later* ....

I'm honestly amazed by people being surprised that he could take the items with him. The fact that he had taken on this form, separated from his body, to search for the grass in the first place, would seem to indicate that he would be able to take the grass with him back to his actual body, because otherwise it wouldn't make much sense for him to be searching in this manner (which has an additional danger of possibly turning himself into an undead). Since he appears to be using magic to search in this manner, it also makes sense to answer the question of "how can he take the physical grass with him" being the use of magic, as well.

@HDMI1 - remembering all my questing in a certain MMORPG, it would not be the weirdest situation I brought loot from. Like all those times I relived memories of ancient warriors, and my pockets got lined with loot from all that ancient warrioring.

A mermaid asks you to follow her into the sea.

It's not a ghost, think of it like an astral projection. I assume everything taken by the "ghost" become spiritual until he return to his body where it will become material.
I think some fantasy stories explanation for teleportation is like that, your body transitioning to a spirit state between it's disintegration and re-materialisation.
Avatar
swimming is such a minor issue. follow the mermaid and be a hero :P
worse case just get her to pull you.

@xyzzy : I do not remember him being in the webnovel, and the manga is (like almost every adaptation) based on the light novel which does have one.

But I have seen stories where the character takes something back from a vision to many times to assume a lack of an editor was needed.

@Ribath
Nah, king is probably too high for these kind of story, I’d say someone of duke status or below. Though demon king doesn’t sound unlikely...
Avatar
I’m so confused- how could a ghost hold a plant and disappear with a physical object???
Avatar
@HDMI1

Because web novels don’t have editors?
