I'd still say that's minimal exposure. And are you kidding? Heaven forbid we ever try to understand what the author was thinking! Author chose to have all the female characters appear as small and child-like? How dare you try to understand that! The author is a black box beyond the possibility of our understanding! Never attempt to understand!

@Ganchachos lol, it's alright, I'm having fun discussing chapters even though it's about something stupid,

@givemersspls ...did you skip chapters? I'm pretty sure the male friends appeared for like half the chapter in chapter 5. "Author feelings" made me chuckled. Good one. 'Please tell what the author meant by the curtain is red'. Good old high school literature class lol.

@Orio I never said "rife". When I said "undertones", I meant literally that, undertones. That means not on the surface, very downplayed. They still exist, but they're not extremely upfront. That's the entire point of what an undertone is, otherwise it wouldn't be an undertone in the first place.

I really didn't mean anything beyond undertones. I don't get why people are acting like I said something more.

Yeah, of course some stories go without any explanation. Do you know what that means? Do you know what the effect is? The effect in Kyoko-chan is to have an air of mystery and potentially other emotions. The effect here is perhaps to make mystery. But in addition, another effect is that there are no male characters besides the MC.

1. Wow, you're massively missing the point. No duh it makes sense for her to think that! I'm not talking about the characters' choices and motivations. It's about the author's choices! Do you not understand that that's what my whole statement is about? Take a step back. Ask why did the author make the choice to make it this way. What effect does this have on the story? Again, of course the classmate girl has a reason to be suspicious of the now-10-mom. The effect on us as readers is to set up the mom in some kind of light as a romantic rival to the classmate girl. That is literally a textbook case of incest undertones.

2. Do you know the term side character? Do you know why the author made the choice to make them side characters whereas the classmate girl is very clearly not a side character? When it's not related to your business? We've seen slices of him being in school. We've seen him interacting with the female classmate while in school. Now, wouldn't you think that would be a good time to show some of the male friends of Haru that literally also go to that school and are likely in the same class? But wait, we don't see that! So then the question becomes WHY don't we see that.

3. The problem seems to be that you're not taking a step back and asking about the author's choices. You're taking things at face value and going oh, huh, sure, that makes sense. You know what? You're completely right. Given the setting, the majority of the actions do make sense! I'm not disagreeing on that. The problem is that I'm asking why did those settings get chosen in the first place. The author is the chooser. They made the choice.

@givemersspls Pretty sure that's the joke, that hidaka see's haru's mom as a rival in love simply from all the motherly things she does to him, not knowing the real context (that she literally is his mom lol).

Kinda brings to mind that idea of how guys are apparently attracted to girls resembling their mothers in personality.

But yeah, is this story rife with incestuous undertones? Sure, though you'd probably have to get pretty Freudian about it in which case EVERYTHING is suddenly seen as a repressed sexual urge lawl

But yeah I mean I imagine some of the appeal is in that, though I think it's appealing more towards just wanting to be pampered as a kid again.
