@Kaarme: Bullshit. Keeping them apart temporarily and beating him up realistically have nothing to do with each other. As you say, Emiel should used to a rough and tumble, so it's not going to be a serious discouragement from... well, anything.

And even if I put in period considerations, reasoned corporal punishment would be something like lashes to the back or something similarly well-structured, not ending up looking like he got in a fist-fight. Instead, it suggests that someone was expressing their anger with violence. I maintain my (suppositional) disappointment.

@Pokari What should have he done? He can't fire Emiel because the dude happens to know the biggest secret in the household, that Estelle is a potential spirit contractor. He could have taken Emiel permanently out of Estelle's guard, but that probably wouldn't work because Estelle herself would ask to get him back. I'd say beating him up and thus creating a convenient reason to keep the two apart temporarily is a very suitable punishment. At the end of the day, the dude would have gotten plenty of bruises during his training in the past, so, as such, it's nothing new. Seeing how much he likes Estelle, he himself would have chosen this over a permanent separation, most certainly.

So the White Hall is basically like Winterfell from ASOIAF.

I'm a little disappointed in Dad if he did indeed beat up Emiel as is implied.

Though—as others have pointed out, I wouldn't be disappointed in the author—constant little reminders that not all is well with these people, this family, or their society, and that the story wants us to take such matters seriously.

(Then again, I'm not totally clear that that's what happened, either. Just that it's what our protagonist assumes.)

@knight_evangel:

This particular artist seems at first glance pretty clueless how to use whatever 3D rendering software they have in the first place, alas. I can see the aliased border pixels a lot of the time! And that choice of low-poly model for the palace this time... XD

But I don't resent it at all, this is clearly what allows the artist to keep going at a reasonable pace, after all.

Although it's not unheard of to use 3D models for manga (I can think of Akamatsu Ken-sensei's 'Negima!' off the top of my head) this is the reason it isn't used all of the time. There is some cleanup involved that not all manga artists know how to do, which can result in (as you say) a visible contrast between the scenery and the characters. I felt the same when I started this series, then right as I got used to it I was caught up on chapters. Now I'm unused to it...

Estelles' face when he patted her head is absolutely precious X>

the dichotomy of the art styles next to each other is killing me.

This series has managed to strike a weird mixture of cutesy fluff while never letting go of the idea that it's actually in a pretty brutal setting, and somehow has managed to do it without really breaking its stride about either or making it feel too jarring.

Emiel getting beaten up as punishment kind of feels natural.

Her giving him presents was so adorable. Hard to believe she even remembers a little about her past life acting like that. ?

The palace was built a long time ago, in a time whene there were neither antialiasing nor high definition...

honestly forgot this was a reincarnation story, now that it's been brought up. still an interesting story though :D
Avatar
@kenkagejack she doesn't remember her previous life. Only bits of it, like a dream.

Forgot this was a reincarnation story. It feels so out of place and unnecessary.

Emiel is a great guy. I wonder how the Duke would react if Estelle fall in love with Emiel later in the story ?
He would probably try to kill him, ahah.

@EternalRavenDreamer @Red225 @Scrabbleman I think he got into a fight with other soldiers for the Allial getting close to Estelle when he wasn't present, I could be wrong tho. And house arrest is his punishment for not telling Duke about the Allial.

@yUYOhana means to be locked in ones house.

So utterly cute!

The duke probably punished Emil, expect thou, even if they are in good terms he is still a soldier and failed to fill on the information.
