Vol. 9 Ch. 42 - Yugami-kun's New Year
Avatar
Chihiro smash

They're 17 years old here right? So they're seniors.

Leaving now would really disrupt Chihiro's studies. Catching up will be very difficult because of, I presume, her english.

They'll be seniors in spring I think it was? The current third years still need to graduate if my recollection of the time of the year for that over there is correct. High school graduations should be in the ballpark of cherry blossom viewing season. At the same time, the new students will be coming in. Honestly, it's not like I've ever looked this up or anything but so many manga have the freshmen starting by walking through falling cherry blossom petals, and I've seen them having the seniors departing with them too. 1 + 1 = maybe not pulling this completely out of my ass

Yugami just inherited some hermit genes from his gramps lol. Wonder how it actually feels moving around like that as a child. I imagine some kids end up being really good socially as they learn to cope with moving and making new friends everytime

i was honestly expecting a bait and switch "haha misunderstanding" thing but it's wasn't which is kinda unexpected as far this type of thing goes in this type of story.

LMAO the fishtail in the "aftermath" panel makes it work :)

Poor Chihiro. Way to ruin your daughter's relationships, Koichi. You better pay her through college then.

A few things I don't see mentioned:

It was nice to see someone who could wrap Yugami in their pace for once; his "foil" so to speak. Suzune is actually kind of cute in her own way =03.

Second, I respect the fact that even though Yugami calling Chihiro for a private talk LOOKED like you're typical confession deal, but neither acted, nor did the story imply that any type of romance was going to happen(hesistant *glups*, blushing, internal thoughts, etc.). The scene was just as normal as could be.

Lastly, I really liked that the dad practically s--ted on the general trope of underage kids living at home(or apartment, etc) by themselves that we see in a crapton of manga =03. Although I say this, I don't actually know if that's a common/rare/exceedingly rare thing in Japan.

@Bana This. I think Yugami is the only one that truly cares for her: he doesn't care what she does, he cares that she does what she want.

It's pretty rare for a girl to smash wall out of anger and frustration

@robomochi

It's pretty see for ANYONE to punch a hole into the wall. (Unless you're Jake Paul kek)
