Princess is gonna be a Melra worshipper and kill her older brother, the King. Calling it here.

Let's say there was a confidante who kept silent and only made a ruckus when the princess didn't return, what do you think will the empire do to a confidante who allowed the princess to head off into danger by herself and die without warning the bodyguards to ensure her safety?
Moreover, if the princess wanted to ensure her safety by indicating that the merchant would suffer repercussions if she didn't return wouldn't she want to hint that someone knows she's there? Instead she explains that she slipped away from her guards of her own volition which strongly suggests no one knows where she is.
More importantly, putting her life at risk is reckless. There's a reason the hero finds her recklessness strange and wonders what she's really up to.

I disagree that the hero is only willing to kill hostile people. In earlier chapters he mentioned that he wanted to take steps to ensure the empire was lead by the third brother he was familiar with; he had nothing against the second brother nor the first, but he would need them dead to unify the empire under the strong third brother he had known. Also, even if we believe the hero is constrained by morality, the princess judging him similarly is far too hasty. They've had, what, two conversations? Besides, the issue is not the hero, it's the merchant. He's the one who is willing to work with demons, who has reached his position of power through some shady under the table deals and who is threatened by the princess learning of his association with demons.

@Kireato Just because she said that she escaped her envoy by herself, doesn't mean that she doesn't have a confidante who knew about her plan and made a ruckus should she disappeared for good.

Also, MC is only willing to kill hostile people, not inconvenient people. Not to mention, the rest of his party, the childhood friend and the elf in particular, are goodie two shoes who wouldn't allow killing people just for being "annoying"
Avatar
@UnknownSaint111 The MC has three women, why can't his friend have two?

Anyway, this was just a "we started our travels" chapter. From what I remember from reading Berserk, this boat ride should only take 7 years to complete. Then we are off to the demon world.

Wait this manga isn’t bad

I did NOT expect that. She was presented as a princess having a fetish for strong fighters, then as a diplomatic envoy, but now she is shown as having her own ambitions, clearly capable of handling herself if she can swim from one boat to another, and to be willing to make ridiculously bold moves to achieve them. I mean, she has admitted she has split away from her guards without revealing anything on where she intended to go, she is all alone, no allies, on a boat in the middle of the sea and those she is inconveniencing is a powerful merchant, a demon, and a party of strong adventurers. Did she not consider that it would be incredibly easy to dispose of her in this situation? How will the Empire ever find out what happened to her when the merchant's own subordinates are convinced she boarded her ship to sail back to the Empire? She's fully aware that the merchant is a man who is willing to use underhanded tactics so I guess she must have believed the Hero's party to be fairly naive and unwilling to allow killing her. Which is not the correct judgment of the MC, since the latter is fully willing to use an assassin to get rid of humans who he believes are a nuisance. It is true that the Princess presented a deal to the Merchant that he shouldn't pass up; after all she is asking for his support to her personally, in exchange for guaranteeing that the Empire won't take over the Merchant's realm. But did she really board that ship with that intention or was it a plan she decided on on the fly when she saw the demon? After all, if the merchant associates with demons, it explains why he doesn't feel threatened by the empire's open ambition to take over and it means that she hardly loses anything by proposing a personal alliance where she guarantees the continued independence of the merchants against their support. And she has to propose a deal to ensure her safety since she's gained dangerous knowledge concerning the merchant. Really, if she wanted to make that kind of deal, she could have done it before when they were talking so this deal probably is a result of her reassessing the situation when she saw that the merchant associated with demons.

Seriously, what was she thinking when she went and boarded herself to learn of what the merchant and hero were up to? Is she just that curious? Did she not consider the risks? There's no reason for the merchant to not plot her demise now that she thinks he has accepted her deal. What is she even going to report to her brothers when she goes back after having disappeared for the duration of this trip? The hero is right, she likely had another motive in boarding that ship, but I can't begin to guess any reason to risk her life for. It's all too foolish and lacks any sense of prudence.

@Syanalassa

We've seen one demon who is not affiliated with the Demon Lord who was trying to achieve something with the dragons. It's not just the human side who has shady characters. It's the combination of all those characters' underground actions that caused a world war.

All 4 of those siblings have a villain vibe.
Now I'm curious about their parents....

@Wolvenworks I really wish they would make subscription tokens a thing like WOW did.

Im thinking that maybe the humans took over the demon lands which is why the original demon lord he fought didnt have horns and they wanted to use the demons to force the humans into forming one country for reasons thats the problem the whole series has be super vague on the why of the human demon war like he's meet a lot of people but the only real people stiring shit up are the human supremacists

@gaigous i'm still on trial. i can't spare enough time and motivation to make activating my key worth it

but i heard the new expansion will have Vieras. i want Vieras T_T

@Wolvenworks The silver lining being that Uxtef does all the AK projects I actually like. FFXIV Pugs were the worst, my guild broke up like a month after zodiac weapons first released, it's the only active MMO I would consider playing again.
Avatar
@gaigous and then you got AK. sometimes you wonder if the team is too buzy playing FFXIV. then you found out that they are more or less a confederation instead of a group.

which means that they prolly have as much coordination as WoT pubbies.
