@ElloryQueen Also, any type of honey can be lethal to a baby

Infants are at a high risk for Botulism from consuming honey of any kind

@SovietWeeb My thoughts were more along the lines of her being the child's twin, and due to political reasons as yet unexplained she was taken by her foster father. This could explain why he thought it was fate that she ended up in the palace, both because he took her from there and because he was once a doctor there. She's probably not the twin, though, as there's little to hint at such a plot twist aside from the fact that she is probably around the age of 17 years right now.

Was her age ever confirmed, btw? I only know that she is younger than 20, and that she is clearly quite young, but she seems older than Rishuu who is 14. At the very least, Maomao could be 18 or 19 and still be worried about the sake ban towards those younger than 20.

I like imagining that the baby didn't die and is actually the MC, I'd love to see something like that. The foster father took her in and hid her away for some reason or another.

Wow! I'm learning so much from this series. I didn't know honey could be lethal depending on the flowers the bees get the nectar from.
Avatar
Well I was totally wrong about my comment from the last chapter. I guess a big bombshell for me was that Maomao's Dad is her foster father, not biological one.

A mistake.
Try to cover a mistake by another mistake.
At the end, there is a innocent little girl almost gets killed.
Its a mixed feeling.

About the southern villa thing, it is unusual because retired consorts were usually placed inside the cold palace right. So yeah, the emperor sending her to southern villa might either be because he still has feelings for her, or out of respect for her who is not only his consort but also his close friend.

@tanooki, not that it's a big surprise, but please put that shit in a spoiler either by typing <spoiler></spoiler> with [] instead of <> or by clicking this:

It's a spoiler. Use a spoiler tag for spoilers.

@pokefairy

The manga is currently reaching the end of the first volume, and there are currently around 6 volumes
Avatar
@tanooki well, that's disappointing. How much further is the novel?
Avatar
@pokefairy the novel series is ongoing I think, as far as I've read she's not oblivious but he's still trying in vain (the difference in rank is a problem)

@Kiraidesu asked the TL and he said
"it's unusual for a retired consort to be sent there, which means that the emperor might still have "feelings" for aaduo. So he might just be trying to keep her close"
though it might be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt.

@mogima even if it is a non poison flower, babies don't should eat honey because of bacterias in honey like Clostridium botulinum

"Spores of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, found in dirt and dust, can contaminate honey. These bacteria are harmless to older kids and adults because their mature digestive systems can move the spores through the body before they cause any harm.

But very young babies haven't developed the ability to handle the spores yet. So if an infant ingests them, the bacteria germinate, multiply, and produce a toxin. That toxin interferes with the normal interaction between the muscles and nerves and can hamper an infant's ability to move, eat, and breathe."

@thanghe, my friends and I have done that flower sucking thing since we were kids, with red clover flowers, it is very sweet nectar. No innuendo... Never thought to do it with other flowers though, which now seems like a lucky lack of interest after reading this chapter ?
