Ch. 17 - Honey (Part 2)

if you're so upset about it then kill yourself

About the southern villa thing, it is unusual because retired consorts were usually placed inside the cold palace right. So yeah, the emperor sending her to southern villa might either be because he still has feelings for her, or out of respect for her who is not only his consort but also his close friend.

@Official229 Thank you! Appreciate your checking with the TL.

@tanooki, not that it's a big surprise, but please put that shit in a spoiler either by typing <spoiler></spoiler> with [] instead of <> or by clicking this:

It's a spoiler. Use a spoiler tag for spoilers.

Thanks....that kinda sucks but I'm here for the murders at any rate

@pokefairy

The manga is currently reaching the end of the first volume, and there are currently around 6 volumes
Avatar
@tanooki well, that's disappointing. How much further is the novel?
Avatar
@pokefairy the novel series is ongoing I think, as far as I've read she's not oblivious but he's still trying in vain (the difference in rank is a problem)
Avatar
@Kiraidesu asked the TL and he said
"it's unusual for a retired consort to be sent there, which means that the emperor might still have "feelings" for aaduo. So he might just be trying to keep her close"
though it might be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt.

@mogima even if it is a non poison flower, babies don't should eat honey because of bacterias in honey like Clostridium botulinum

"Spores of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, found in dirt and dust, can contaminate honey. These bacteria are harmless to older kids and adults because their mature digestive systems can move the spores through the body before they cause any harm.

But very young babies haven't developed the ability to handle the spores yet. So if an infant ingests them, the bacteria germinate, multiply, and produce a toxin. That toxin interferes with the normal interaction between the muscles and nerves and can hamper an infant's ability to move, eat, and breathe."

@thanghe, my friends and I have done that flower sucking thing since we were kids, with red clover flowers, it is very sweet nectar. No innuendo... Never thought to do it with other flowers though, which now seems like a lucky lack of interest after reading this chapter ?

the poison x beauty theme is so beautiful it's making me addicted to this manga

Thanks for the info at the end!

Someone please explain the implications of the Southern Villa/the Emperor's decision to me. I may or may not be on the slow side.
Avatar
@stasis_sword just realized in my country there's plenty of milk formula which is honey-flavored. not specifically for babies, but the box said for under 3 or under 5. is that one ok?
Avatar
@stasis_sword

thx for the info. i won't give it to my future babies then

Avatar
@Mogima not the same reason as in the manga, but infants shouldn't be given honey because it can cause botulism

edit: maybe it's fine if you sterilize it beforehand but...

@lunadeselene babies can eat honey. this case is special as :
1. the honey is from a certain type of flower.
2. the honey is unprocessed(un-sterilizes? whichever way u called it)

in the 21st century though, knock your babies out with that honey.
Avatar
Great chapter. I really liked how well it was illustrated why babies don't should eat honey.
Avatar
The hell she trying to say, suddenly go suck suck on that flower in front of him like that?
Avatar
Someone spoil me on whether she actually falls for Jinshi
Avatar
Maomao pomfs and doesn't afraid of anything.
Avatar
That's why you don't give honey to children under 2-year-old, I actually didn't know this until I met a licensed babysitter (with experience and first-aid certificate etc)
Avatar
The case is solved... but how'd the victim get sent over the massive wall and drown in the moat?
Avatar
Thanks for the clarifications and the new chapter, this is some great work that you've put in! ?
Avatar
wait, wait. Did maomao just make Jinshi consume the toxin that "killed" him? That's some sick irony there
Avatar
steer clear of honey until the baby is a year old, you dumb servant ? how did you get hired by the royal consort ?
Avatar
So the lesson is never give suspiscious honey to babies, well honey in general.

Honey is even bad for children if it is made from non-poisonous flowers. Honey often contains spores of the botulinum bacteria. The spores are harmless to those with normally functioning immune systems, but to infants it is quite deadly.

What a fantastic finish to that arc and I really love the effort the scanlation team puts in with the redrawing sound effects and just everything is done so well. Even the extra mile with the honey research is a nice touch. Thanks so much for doing such great work on one of my favourite mangas

Azaleas are toxic?! Damn...
Avatar
Thanks for the lesson

On the other hand, somebody intentionally eating food that the poison tester has marked as dangerous is just plain stupid, the bread was just spiked with a ton of liquor and otherwise harmless (though with how well she can hold her liquor, anything that's potent enough to work on her shouldn't be called harmless...), and Jinshi's... well, Jinshi. That one was probably on purpose to screw with him feeding her honey.
Avatar
Yet another person poisoned by her delightful snacks. What are we up to now, 5 victims?

1 person who ate the poisoned soup bc she seemed so pleased with it
3 girls who ate her chocolate bread
1 stalker who took a sip of her flower

What a successfull poison tester we have here

Thanks for the chapter ?

You're not supposed to feed honey to babies under a year old anyway.
