I guess it was going to be a suicide where the wire with a weight on its other end pulls the gun away from the body to some hole where it won't be found and the wet door makes it look like a locked room murder instead. The wire looks a bit too long for that kind of trick though so maybe it was supposed to pull the gun to the ceiling and hide it there?
