She hasn't realized that, just like her, who he is at school differs from who he is outside of school.
She's able to blend in better at school that he is.
And, if he doesn't want anyone else at school to know about where he works, etc., how would they explain their suddenly being friends at school, when none of it developed at school?
So, the cold shoulder out of self-defense, to avoid questions concerning how they are suddenly friends when the previous day they hadn't even talked to each other before?
So... Don't be so crushed. Give it time. Visit the coffee shop, and see how things progress.
See if there's a way to make contact at school that doesn't let on that you already know each other outside of school.
